The Old has Come

The term antique is used rather loosely these days and often ends up reflecting the age of the person using it more than a hard and fast definition. To a teenager, for example, a kitchen tool or gadget from the 1960s seems “antique," while a senior adult might see antiques as the many objects they used or saw in the homes of their parents and grandparents as a child.

Antiques are an item or a piece of art which can be collectible, and they are usually old and desirable. An object may be collected because of its age, beauty, utility, emotional concerns and the unique features it possesses. An antique is usually more than a hundred years old. Initially, the word antiques referred to the pre-classical and classical cultures of the world, but now it is applied to all the ancient artifacts which are over 100 years.

There’s a store in Alimall that buys and sells “antique” items and furnitures named Guiller’s Arts, Antique, & Collectibles. Mr. Eduardo Macaro established the store last September 5, 2018. Guiller’s Arts, Antique, & Collectibles has two branches as of now; one in Alimall which in fact is their first branch and another one in SM Megamall.

Mr. Eduardo started from collecting only coins until they met several antique collectors that influenced him to start that kind of business. Guiller’s Arts, Antique, & Collectibles sells furniture that was imported from different countries in Asia, as well as in Europe and America. He also has a partnership with the World Treasures Trading that was founded in 1987. They specialize in hand crafted products, made from natural materials, with designs rooted in Asian cultures.

“Antiques are important because it came from our ancestors and we need to value it.”, said Mr. Eduardo. He wants to introduce antiques furniture to the modern generation to appreciate the time of Spanish era, because some of their items came from that era which have lived for two to three centuries and counting.

It is given that people appreciates trends, things that they relate or use, and most of us want to spend money in technology rather than collect antiques that all we can make use is to display in our houses as decorations, some would be left unopened for it is fragile and sensitive for exposure. We often see antiques furniture in the houses of our grandparents in provinces but now we can see it in the mall and also we can buy it or sell it.

When you visit Guiller’s Arts, Antique, & Collectibles, the people and the staff will accommodate you nicely, if in luck, they will tell stories behind the objects which you will find fascinating as the story goes on. They sell swords, paintings, bracelet, toys, and many more. Even just by standing inside the store would seem that you are in the past world; the interior designs, lightings, and even the scent of the store are in sync – it all feels old.

Moreover, according to Mr. Eduardo, the longer the years a particular antique existed, the more expensive it would be. “Yung value ‘nong antique, tumataas as time passes by dahil mas nagiging rare siya.”, he added. It’s because most of it is rare and is alone existing in this world. However, according to Ms. Krezia Leigh Correos, all antiques has different stories and mainly is handcrafted.

The coins they collect are not available in their store nonetheless you can reach them via email or phone number. Smart: 09103053300, Globe: 09273028815, Email: guillersantiques@gmail.com. If you want to buy and sell antiques furniture you can also visit their store in Alimall and in SM Megamall.
