A Power Couple …of Local Entrepreneurs

By: Lorenzo Guab

Many Filipinos have chosen to find a dream job after going through college and building their career paths.

Mark Asilo, a 40-year-old local entrepreneur from Marikina City just wanted to be self-employed.

To be his very own boss. "...Never ako naging employee, lagi ako nagnenegosyo. Kase ayoko ng inoorasan ako" Asilo said.

During his teenage years, he started selling barbeque during school breaks to have extra-money – that sparked his interest in owning a business. Today, Mark Asilo runs various businesses some of which are online buy-and-sell and a couple of food restaurants.
One of which is known for their famous Sisig Burger Steak and Sisig Kebab. Their latest creation is Nat’ Sisig – a Filipino cuisine restaurant in Marikina that he manages together with his wife Nariel. "Kung wala wife ko, hindi mangyayari ito (Nat’ Sisig). Sya nag-iinovate ng mga niluluto sa kusina"

Their latest menu consists of the usual Filipino cuisines made with a hint of creativity in the kitchen. Every recipe has a standard to follow and they make sure that every one of their cooks knows it.

Surprisingly, both the career path they took is not even close to their degree. He finished a 2-year course on computer programming while his wife Nariel is a make-up artist.

Like any business out there, Mark Asilo is never stranger to failure. His former food restaurant Kanto Pares in Marikina did not do well in the current market due to mismanagement.

His advice for aspiring entrepreneurs is to balance aggressiveness in expanding branches until your first one is made perfect. Fix all flaws in the business before jumping out to another, Asilo added.

These moments are why as an entrepreneur, he strives to come back up and offer something better, always. Asilo’s early attempt in establishing a name in the food business failed once in Marikina to which he vowed to never let himself fail in that place again. Together with his wife, they tried, again and again, to offer something better always.
